About our shops

We have an expanding chain of 20 hospice shops spread throughout Somerset, and these raise in excess of £600,000 each year towards the costs of providing the range of services offered by St. Margaret’s. Each shop has a manager and deputy manager, all of whom are supported by a team of more than 500 volunteers. Our shops are entirely dependant upon the generosity of our supporters for donations of unwanted presents, good books, quality clothing, china and glass, furniture, and jewellery.

Shop vanWe can collect furniture on weekdays, and for a small charge will also deliver to customers’ homes. We offer a prompt caring service on the understanding that all goods are donated to the hospice.

Our vans travel throughout the county collecting and delivering furniture. We have to abide by Trading Standards Regulations and can only accept furniture that complies with the 1988 Fire Regulations. Surplus furniture is stored in our warehouses in Taunton and Yeovil.

We also offer a special house clearance service on weekdays (subject to viewing by a hospice representative) on the understanding that all goods are donated to the hospice.

If you have goods you would like to donate to the hospice, or would be willing to spend a few hours helping in your local shop, please contact the manager of the shop nearest to you.

VolunteersShop volunteer

The shops could not operate without the contribution made by over 500 volunteers who work in local shops across the county, keeping them open six days a week and offering a service to communities. They work hours which suit them; they have fun and feel a valued member of the team. We are always looking for volunteers and your help and support would be greatly appreciated if you could spare a few hours a week. The manager of your local shop would be delighted to hear from you.
