Questions:
What is the Great Walk?
The challenge is to walk 80km of The Great Wall of China in October 2010. The Great Wall is incredible and provides a stern challenge for every walker, one which is not to be underestimated.
Why do we need your help?
St. Margaret’s Somerset Hospice is celebrating 30 Years of Caring. We rely on donations for much of our work and your trek will raise vital funds.
How much will I need to raise?
Part of the challenge is to raise funds for the Hospice and within this figure the costs of your trek will be covered.
There are three ways in which you can fund your trek:
1. Fund the entire sum from your own money.
2. Cover the travel costs personally and the remainder by fundraising.
3.Fundraise for the full amount.
Whichever way you choose to fund your trek each participant must reach a target of £2990. 50% of this figure covers your travel and accommodation costs with the remainder being a donation to the charity.
How do I fundraise?
There are lots of different ways to fundraise for the trek. Don’t just think about the traditional sponsor form! (Although that will be very helpful and we can set you up with your own on line sponsor page) You can also hold your own fundraising events such as quiz nights, boot sales, dinners etc We will supply you with a list of possible ways to fundraise. Don’t forget to ask your employer if they can help as many companies have a matched giving scheme. Make a list of all the people you know and you will be surprised how much potential there is.
How fit willI need to be?
Make no mistake the Great Wall is a stern challenge with many thousands of steps set on the top of high mountains. The trek is not for the faint hearted and we recommend that you do train for the trek as much as you can. If you have any doubts about your personal health, please do consult your doctor before signing up for the trip. There will be many walkers of different fitness so you will find your own pace, but the more you train the more you will enjoy the trek.
Will I have to carry my kit?
