Community Palliative Care Nurse Specialists (CPCNS)
The majority of the patients under the care of St Margaret's remain in the comfort of their home and are supported by the Community Palliative Care Nurse Specialists (CPCNS). These hospice nurses work with GPs, District Nurses and other health and care workers in achieving the best care for our patients.
Our nurses work in teams aligned to GP surgeries. They are based in Taunton, Yeovil, and there are satellite sites in Glastonbury, Bridgwater and Minehead. They provide an expert specialist palliative care advisory service to GP's, health care professionals, patients and carers.
The nurses provide information to help patients to understand about their illness; treatments available and medicines prescribed as well as advising on financial benefits, support groups and other services available.
Our nurses are there to listen, to allow patients to share their problems and worries. There may be periods of time when the patient's condition has stabilised and the nurses care and support is no longer required. In these circumstances, our services remain available and can be reinstated as they are needed.
