Day Hospice
Day Hospice, based in our Taunton and Yeovil hospices, is one of the core services provided to patients across the county and neighbouring areas. It is a place where adult patients can find mutual support and meet other patients suffering a similar illness in a comfortable, safe and caring environment. This can promote confidence and overcome the isolation patients sometimes feel.
A team of professionals, including doctors, physiotherapists, lymphoedema nurses, social workers, chaplains and complementary and diversional therapists, support our Day Hospices. Volunteers also play a vital role in the running and success of both centres.
As well as providing a base for the day it also affords the patients an opportunity to access the full range of services available through the Hospice team. These include symptom management, emotional support, and complementary and diversional therapies. These activities are very popular and patients from both Day Hospices produce a very wide range of arts and crafts, some of which are sold to help raise money.
Referrals
The patient’s GP, District Nurse or Hospice Nurse usually makes referrals to the centre. The ward staff or Hospital based Hospice Nurses can also refer patients. Home visits are sometimes undertaken for some patients according to individual needs.
