Information and Support Centres

Information and support - every Thursday

The newest addition to our family of services available in the community – an information and support centre where patients with a life-limiting illness, their families and carers, can all benefit from the care, support and advice from a team of specialist health care professionals and a complementary therapist, on a weekly basis.

Monthly specialist clinics

The centre will also host monthly specialist clinics, bringing a number of our clinical services right into the heart of your local community.

* Physiotherapy and Breathlessness Management Services

* Lymphoedema Management Service

* Community Palliative Care Nurse Specialist - for information about their services and links to support available at home.

Professional clinical support

Support groups

Drop in for a cup of tea and talk to specialist health care professionals, to gain invaluable support, advice and information to help make life more comfortable. Patients and/or their families and carers can find mutual support and meet others in similar circumstances, in a comfortable, safe and caring environment.

Complementary therapy

Head massage

Complementary therapies are holistic treatments, taking into account a person’s physical, emotional, mental and spiritual well-being. As such they can be very effective in assisting symptom control and aiding relaxation. A range of treatments are on offer, by appointment, such as reflexology, aromatherapy, indian head massage and reiki.

Physiotherapy

The physiotherapy team offers a full range of specialist physiotherapy treatment, support and advice, and also run a Breathlessness Management Service, offering techniques and tips on how to manage breathlessness, reducing its impact on everyday activities.

Lymphoedema

Lymphoedema - arm

Also available at this clinic, once a month, is a specialist Lymphoedema service for people with chronic oedema, regardless of cause. Lymphoedema is a swelling that develops as a result of impaired lymphatic system. It cannot be cured, but it can be managed using a combination of treatments which can include intensive massage, bandaging and compression garments.

Community Palliative Care Nurse Specialist

Our specialist nurses liaise closely with a patient’s GP, community nurse and social services. This monthly clinic will provide an opportunity for carers, and/or patients, well enough to travel, to see the Community Palliative Care Nurse Specialist for in-depth advice.
