30 Years of Caring

St. Margaret's celebrates 30 Years of Caring for the people of Somerset.

30 Years of Caring

In 2010 St. Margaret’s Somerset Hospice enters into its fourth decade of care for the people of Somerset. This is a massive achievement and one which so many people should be extremely proud; ranging from the original group of volunteers whose idea it was to found the hospice, through to the present day staff and supporters.

During those 30 years, St. Margaret’s has grown from just a few medical staff to a charity which now serves every part of the county in a variety of different ways. Doctors and nurses are working 24 hours a day throughout the year offering palliative care for those with a life limiting illness in homes, hospitals, clinics and two hospices all completely free of charge. St. Margaret’s is known for its high level of patient care and the work it does with families who have been bereaved, making sure that at the most difficult time in life there is the support that they need.

St. Margaret’s will be celebrating 30 Years of Caring throughout 2010 with special events and information on the work of the hospice. Already planned is a business leaders event later this month, a summer ball with special guest TV weather presenter Sian Lloyd, a service of celebration in Wells Cathedral and a sponsored walk along the Great Wall of China.

The charity is planning ahead for the next thirty years and is optimistic about the role it has to play in ensuring that those with a life limiting illness get the best possible care whenever and wherever they need it.
