Communication Skills for HCA's
This basic level interactive study day is designed to improve the skills and confidence in communicating with patients, their families, carers and with the multi-professional team.

Outcomes: By the end of this study day the student will be able to:
- Discuss issues relating to palliative care with patients and carers, and identify appropriate methods of facilitating communication within practice
- Explore the concept of empathy, and discuss ways in which it can be applied in practice to develop and support communication within the therapeutic relationship
- Recognise what are non-verbal communications and analyse their meanings in order to develop an appropriate response when communicating within practice
- Demonstrate ways in which listening skills can be used to effectively develop communication
