These study days will enable the HCA to develop and improve their understanding of issues about end of life and bereavement care for both patient and carers. This includes the use of the integrated care pathways

Outcomes:
At the end of this study day the student will be able to:
- understand and discuss the concept of death and dying, bereavement and End of Life Care
- assess the patient’s needs and recognise dying
- identify and evaluate the nursing skills required to support the dying patient and their carer/s
- evaluate patient needs, and inform the nursing or multidisciplinary team in an appropriate and timely way to ensure patient safety and care
- discuss the information needs of patients and carer/s and identify appropriate forms of communication and information giving
