Hospice Core Study Programme
This is a comprehensive programme of specialist palliative care courses and study days covering all aspects of holistic palliative care, aimed at the multi-professional team.
These study days can be taken as individual days or combined to become an academic module -

Bereavement in Adults / Childhood Bereavement A one-day course to enable health care professionals to understand the process of bereavement and loss in adults and children, and to influence the environment in managing their practice in a supportive care setting.

Emotional Responses to Life Limiting Illness A one-day course to enable health care professionals to understand the emotional response of patients and carers facing progressive illness and death, and how their needs can be addressed in a care setting.

Ethical and Legal Dilemmas Recent changes in legislation are having a significant impact on the ethical and legal decision making process in Palliative Care. Using experiential learning, this study day is designed to help Health Care Professionals identify the nature of ethical reasoning and legal aspects of Palliative Care. To keep abreast of the changes as they are happening, the day will cover topical issues relevant at the time.

Symptom Control in Palliative Care (excluding pain) A two-day course for health care professionals involved in the delivery of palliative care, aimed at increasing the knowledge and understanding of palliative care, its principles and philosophy, treatments and management of the more common symptoms (excluding pain) associated with palliative care patients, and to increase the participant’s confidence in putting theory into practice. Pain in palliative care is covered in a separate two-day course.

The Management of Pain in Palliative Care A two-day course for registered health care professionals involved in the delivery of palliative care, aimed at raising awareness of the impact of pain on individuals and carers, together with an understanding of pain treatments and management.

What Can I Say? A one-day course to enable students through experiential learning to explore interpersonal and communication skills and the management of difficult situations, in the workplace.
