Whether you've held a Christmas Jumper Day, Christmas Cake Sale, used our Easy Christmas Card or just want to make a donation, please help St. Margaret's make each day count this Christmas.

Christmas Day is fast approaching and families across Somerset are preparing to get together to celebrate.

But when someone in your family is facing a life-limiting illness, the festive fun and happiness can be overshadowed by sadness and anxiety.

Jan Proud, a nurse in the In-patient Unit in Taunton, said: “Christmas spirit is always in full swing on the ward.”

In previous years, Jan has worked on Christmas Day. She described how the charity’s staff and volunteers do everything possible to make Christmas a day to remember for patients and their families. Jan recalls the last Christmas Day she worked with great memories, “Each patient was given an embroidered stocking with several presents inside,” she said. “With everyone wearing their Christmas hats, everyone was thrilled at being part of such a magical start to Christmas morning. Patients were animated and excited, in spite of their symptoms.”

“Later, I sat with a lady who needed help to eat, both wearing our silly hats. As she ate, she told me of her Christmases past with her family, enjoying a quiet time of reflection on a busy day.”

Jan said: “Everyone at St. Margaret’s Hospice ensure patients and their families are able to make each day count, every Christmas this is reinforced by the love I witness throughout the hospice."
