The Great Wall of China is the exciting destination for our next overseas trek - and you can find out more at an event in May.

Fundraisers from Somerset will discover one of the world’s most iconic sights in October 2020. After five days of trekking, the trip will be rounded off with a day exploring Beijing, including the Forbidden City and Tiananmen Square.

Anyone interested in joining the trek can find out more at an information evening on Wednesday, May 8, 2019. The event, from 6pm to 8pm, is taking place at St. Margaret’s Hospice in Little Tarrat Lane, Yeovil. Numbers are limited, so please register in advance if possible.

Previous destinations for our popular biennial overseas treks have included India, Vietnam and Peru. Ian Williamson has taken part in several of them and will be speaking about his experiences at the information evening.

He said: “What I love about the St. Margaret’s overseas treks is the opportunity to travel to fascinating parts of the world while raising funds to help the hospice care for people in Somerset. It’s extremely rewarding and the groups are always very friendly. Many of us have become good friends.”

Sonia Bateman, events fundraiser at St. Margaret’s Hospice, said: “The Great Wall of China is a real ‘bucket list’ destination for a special trek to celebrate our charity’s 40th year.

“October 2020 may seem a long way off, but we know from experience that signing up well in advance really helps people to raise sponsorship, as well as giving them a fantastic experience to look forward to.”
