Excitement is mounting ahead of a sparkling new event coming soon to Somerset.

The Glitter Run will see hundreds of people run, jog or walk around a 5k course while being sprayed with a fine covering of washable glitter.

Taking inspiration from a trend which started in Los Angeles, the event will be raising funds to help St. Margaret’s Hospice continue caring for people across Somerset with life-limiting illnesses.

With a choice of two dates and venues, even before the official launch of the Glitter Run more than 900 people had already signed up after hearing about it on social media.

Sonia Bateman, the charity’s events coordinator, said: “The buzz on social media since we started talking to our supporters about the Glitter Run has been amazing.

“It looks set to be our most popular fundraising event to date. We always knew it was going to be a huge amount of fun, but even we have been surprised by the response.”

The Glitter Run, kindly sponsored by West Country Windows and Gibbins Richards, is taking place at Wincanton Racecourse on Sunday, May 20, and Taunton Racecourse on Saturday, June 16.

Hundreds of participants have already signed up to get misted with non-toxic, biodegradable glitter as they run, walk, skip or dance their way round a sparkling 5k course.

The event is suitable for adults and children aged five and over. Tickets cost £12 for children and £18 for adults.

The booking fee pays for the cost of the event, so participants are also encouraged to raise sponsorship or make a donation. One easy way to do this is by creating a Fundraiser on Facebook. Simply visit the St. Margaret’s Somerset Hospice Facebook page to find out more.
