Hundreds of charity fundraisers joined in the fun as the South West’s first Glitter Run took place in glorious weather at Wincanton Racecourse.

The event on Sunday, May 20, was raising vital funds for St. Margaret’s Hospice.

More than 800 people signed up to run, jog or walk around the 5k course while getting sprayed with non-toxic, biodegradable glitter along the way.

The colourful craze, which started in California, is set to continue next month when the Glitter Run comes to Taunton Racecourse on Saturday, June 16.

Events fundraiser Sonia Bateman said: “It was fantastic to see so many people enjoying themselves at our first Glitter Run. We would like to thank everyone who took part and all the volunteers who helped make the day a success.

“Fundraising events like this are so important to St. Margaret’s Hospice. Every pound makes a difference, so by collecting sponsorship money our fabulous Glitter Runners are helping to support thousands of people across Somerset who are facing life-limiting illnesses.

“There is still time to sign up for the Taunton Glitter Run and we’re looking forward to seeing everyone for more glittery fun on June 16.”

The Glitter Run, kindly sponsored by West Country Windows and Gibbins Richards, is suitable for adults and children aged five and over. Tickets cost £12 for children and £18 for adults.

The booking fee pays for the cost of the event, so participants are also encouraged to raise sponsorship or make a donation. One easy way to do this is by creating a Fundraiser on Facebook. Simply visit the St. Margaret’s Somerset Hospice Facebook page to find out more.
