As a singer and actor, Alister Wilmott’s career has taken him around the world. But whenever he is back at home in Taunton, he is always keen to lend his talents to support St. Margaret’s Hospice.

Alister has performed at a number fundraising events as well as a Christmas party for some of our volunteers. He first got to know St. Margaret’s Hospice more than 10 years ago when his grandfather was cared for at our Taunton In-patient Unit.

“He was here for a few weeks and it was lovely to see how well looked after he was by the nurses and everyone else who was involved in his care,” said Alister. “I was absolutely bowled over by the support that was given to my grandfather and the whole family. It’s such a wonderful place.”

His family’s experience of the compassionate care delivered by St. Margaret’s Hospice has meant Alister is only too willing to give something back whenever an opportunity comes along. Before heading off on his latest overseas trip performing shows on board a cruise ship, Alister entertained visitors to our Taunton hospice summer fete by performing some of his favourite Motown hits and songs from popular musicals.

“It was a fun day and it was great to see so many people here supporting the hospice,” he said. “This is a charity that’s very close to my heart, and I have met a lot of lovely people at the various events I have been to.

“I would definitely encourage more young people to get involved in volunteering for St. Margaret’s. Even if, like me, you can’t necessarily help on a regular basis, there is always something you can do if you want to give some of your time.”

Whatever your talents or experience, you could help St. Margaret’s Hospice to care for people across Somerset who are affected by life-limiting illnesses.
