Sunflower Friends is a befriending service and we are looking or new volunteers to provide support to patients in their own homes. It could be taking a patient to the hairdressers, playing a game of cards, or simply having a chat and being a listening ear.

Sunflower Friends are trained volunteers that provided befriending support to hospice patients in the community. A trained Sunflower Friend is ‘matched’ with a patient and provides companionship and support within the home, which may involve taking patients to doctors’ appointments or social outings, as well as signposting patients to other services. More than anything, it provides companionship, which may just involve visiting the patient in their home and being with them.

Volunteers will use their own cars to visit patients and travel costs are reimbursed. However it is not necessary to be a car owner, we welcome volunteers who would be willing to walk, cycle of use public transport to visit patients.

Visits take place during normal working hours Monday to Friday. Volunteers can offer their time depending on their availability, but usually this involves a visit once a week for a couple of hours.
