Day Hospice Sunflower Centre

Our Day Hospice Sunflower Centre is a place where we can provide support and advice for patients with life-limiting illnesses or advanced progressive conditions who are well enough to live at home, but would like to take advantage of the specialist support that St. Margaret’s can offer. Carers are very welcome too.

Sunflower CentreWelcome to the Sunflower Centre

Our aim is to empower each person to gain independence and self worth.

This newly designed service seeks to provide an informal, lively, and vibrant atmosphere where patients and their carers can enjoy new interests, companionship, social and, where appropriate, physical activities.

Patients with specialist palliative care needs requiring a higher level of support, symptom control or emotional support are likely to attend on a pre-arranged booking. However, they can spend as much or as little of the day with us as they like.

Alternatively, patients or carers with less complex needs but still requiring support can attendSunflower Centre Movement Group as an informal visitor, perhaps coming in to attend a specific event on our programme, or to spend an hour or two with like-minded companions.

Patients who visit our Sunflower Centre will have access to specialist nursing and medical support in a comfortable and reassuring environment. This can help to improve understanding about other services provided by the Hospice.

The Sunflower Centre provides access to a number of services:

  • Emotional and psychological support
  • Symptom control
  • Physiotherapy
  • Lymphoedema management
  • Occupational therapy
  • Diversional therapy
  • Chaplaincy
  • Complementary Therapies
  • Advice on practical matters such as finance and benefits
  • Carer assisted bathing
  • And the opporunity to attend a programme of activities

The Centre staff are supported by a team of volunteers each day.

Light snacks are available for patients during the day with lunch being served between 12.30pm – 1.30pm. Refreshments are provided free of charge to patients.
