With over 300 staff and 1,000 volunteers providing care and support to patients and their families facing a life-limiting illness across Somerset, St Margaret’s Hospice Care recognises that every person is an individual with different needs, preferences and abilities. We aim to reflect this diversity in everything we do, particularly when attracting and retaining a diverse workforce. We are committed to implementing policies designed to promote equality of opportunity in our employment practice.

We have roles, both paid, bank and volunteering roles, in our community team, shops, In-patient Unit, therapy teams, fundraising department to name just a few. Our staff tell us there are so many benefits of working for St Margaret’s, the reward of making each day count for patients and their families. We also offer a range of staff benefits, including a generous holiday allowance and free parking.

Respect and dignity

We actively promote equality of opportunity for all with the right mix of talent, skills and potential.

We always treat people fairly, with respect and dignity. We will not tolerate discrimination, victimisation or harassment. We select all candidates for interview based on their skills, aptitude, qualifications and experience.

We welcome applications from a wide range of candidates, including those with criminal records. We have a written policy on the recruitment of ex-offenders, which is made available to all applicants at the outset of the recruitment process.

Assessment will be based on the suitability of a person with the objective that no one is disadvantaged by conditions or requirements, which cannot be shown to be justifiable.

We will ensure that the special needs of job applicants and employees are considered constructively, creatively, and in line with the spirit of disability legislation.
